NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH For more than 30 years, law enforcers and their civilian partners have been working together to reduce crime and improve the quality of life in neighborhoods around the country. Traditionally, a Neighborhood Watch group is led by a resident who is actively involved and dedicated to safety and issues facing his or her neighborhood. The process of organizing a Neighborhood Watch consists of: 1) Creating awareness 2) Organizing Volunteers 3) Coordinating with law enforcement 4) Identifyig concerns & 5) Providing training. Each Neighborhood Watch Program needs a Block Captain & a Co-Captain. The REQUIREMENTS of Neighborhood Watch are 1) Attendance of Captain & Co-Captain at 2 meetings per year, 2) Distribute Kirkwood Police Department newsletters, 3) Develop a phone tree to be shared with police department, 4) Have at least 60% of the block participate in operation I-Dent program, 5) Participate in Kirkwood/ Oakland Neighborhood Night Out , & 6) Block Captain reports to neighbors when information is passed on to them from Community Services or from the district officer in their area.
